Stables Gallery, Taos NM JUNE 1ST - 9th, 2024 Please join artist Scott Sutton : Pigment Hunter in celebration of place and the landscape's influence on the traditional cultures as well as contemporary art of Northern New Mexico. This installation will be focused on the colors in the geological and ecological landscape of the Upper Rio Grande Watershed. The art installation will highlight the diverse work of Scott Sutton whos uses locally sourced Earth based materials for creating prints, paintings, and topographical sculptures inspired by the landscape of Northern New Mexico. |
ARTIST IN RESIDENCE PROGRAMThis installation will also help to highlight and support the development of the Arterialist artist in residence program located in Sunshine Valley near Cerro, New Mexico.
40 acres of land west of Cerro, NM purchased from Chevron Mining will be the home for a residency program that will focus on the use of local and natural materials for creating a sense of place. |
COMMUNITY ENGAGED ART PROJECTDate : June 3rd- 7th : 12pm-6pm
Location : Stables Gallery During the week there will be opportunities for the local community to learn the art of processing pigments for use in making inks and paints during the weekdays with hands on learning experiences. The local community of artists as well as children & adults who don't consider themselves artists are welcome to learn how to process pigments, make paints, silkscreen prints, and help create a collaborative art project over the course of the week celebrating the richness of a colorful palette found in the natural world around us. |
B-EARTH DAY ARTIST TALKDate : June 7th, 2024
Location : Stables Gallery Scott Sutton will give a talk about his work using colors from the geological & ecological landscapes of the Upper Rio Grande Basin Watershed. This talk will highlights Scott's passion for using local sources of color from both natural and cultural landscapes to create works of art that reflect a sense of place while honoring the Earth. Part of this discussion will also involve demonstrations about processing colors from the Earth and how the use of natural pigments can help to bring an awareness about the impacts of humanity on the very watersheds we call home. |
